CANADIAN UNITARIANS FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE (CUSJ)
From homeless to the environment, from globalization to equitable taxation, CUSJ at UCM looks to change the current system. They research issues, plan educational events and programs, and organize social action projects in our communities.

The Mavis Road Homeless Shelter noontime volunteer program is currently suspended.
THE ARGUMENTARIANS
The Argumentarians are a group of not-likeminded individuals who meet about every three weeks at various locations to discuss and argue about issues of interest to group members. If you are argument-ative, have a sense of humour, don’t take offence easily, and are strong willed, you may be interested.
MEN’S GROUP
UCM sponsors small groups for men who explore their journeys as men. They provide supportive settings for a deeper sharing of participants’ lives and stories and offer places for them to focus on some of the challenging issues that men face in present-day society.
Participants commit themselves to regular attendance and confidentiality.
DAYTIMERS
1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 12 noon to 3 pm. Bring your lunch and chat awhile. Sometimes we have a speaker — travelogues are very popular. We also enjoy tours. Bring your ideas for activities: tours, movies, videos,presentations, etc.
BOOK CLUB
4th Tuesday at 1:15 pm in members’ homes. Here is a forum for discussing your favourite book, old or new, with other book lovers. The group decides its own reading list. Consult the newsletter for the “book-of-the-month” and the month’s host.
SOUTH PEEL CHOIR
Sundays at 9:30 am (practice) in the Great Hall. Love to sing? Join this group of mixed voices who sing regularly at Sunday worship. The music they perform reflects the diversity of music itself. New singers are always welcome.

SOULFUL SUNDOWNS
1st Thursdays at 7:30 pm beginning November 5th
Soulful Sundown explores the intersection of music, arts, and spirituality. It blends live music, video, and occasional drama to create a
powerful experience. The service designed for young adults, yet is family friendly. Stay after the service for fellowship and fun.
DRUMMING CIRCLES
3rd Thursdays at 7:30 pm
Come drum with us. This monthly event is designed for beginners as well as experienced drummers. Fun for all ages. The group comes together amazingly in sound and rhythm.
SOURCEFIRE
4th Thursdays at 7:30 pm
Share ritual, music, drumming, meditation, readings, dance, and more. Small groups take turns planning each meeting by sharing their talents and experiences.

Film and Spirituality

Cinema is a powerful medium for expressing our deepest emotions and thoughts. Our fall series looks at what makes us who we are. The evenings will begin with a simple meal like pizza, and we’ll serve popcorn for that real theatre experience.
January 29: RAISING ARIZONA (1987)
When a childless couple of an ex-con and an ex-cop decide to help themselves to one of another family's quintupelets, their lives get more complicated than they anticipated.
February 26: AWAY WE GO (2009)
A couple who is expecting their first child travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. Along the way, they have misadventures and find fresh connections with an assortment of relatives and old friends who just might help them discover “home” on their own terms for the first time.
March 26: THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON (2008)
What makes Benjamin Button such a curious case is that when he is born in New Orleans just after World War I, he is already in his eighties. He proceeds to live his life aging in reverse. This sweeping film follows the character's unusual life into the 21st century as he experiences joy and sadness, loves lost and found, and the meaning of timelessness.
April 30: DEPARTURES (2008)
Freshly unemployed, young cellist Daigo has an epiphany in which he realizes he’s been heading down the wrong career path. Retreating to his hometown, he trains for a new professional role as a nakanshi, or one who prepares the dead for burial. An Oscar-winning, richly detailed, if unlikely,drama about finding your bliss.
May 28: AFTER LIFE (1999)
At a way station somewhere between heaven and earth, the newly dead are greeted by guides. Over the next three days, they will help the dead sift through their memories to find the one defining moment of their lives. The chosen moment will be re-created on film and taken with them when the dead pass on to heaven. This grave, beautifully crafted film reveals the surprising and ambiguous consequences of human recollection.
